RVS Receives Funding for Two New Schools

Posted on

Rocky View Schools (RVS) appreciates the provincial government’s commitment to addressing our division’s overcrowded schools and its announcement today of funding for capital projects in Airdrie and Chestermere.

Today, the government announced RVS has received planning funding for two new schools in Budget 2025:

  • An Airdrie Kindergarten – Grade 9 school (Lanark)
  • A Chestermere high school (Chelsea)

“The Board of Trustees is grateful to the Government of Alberta for its continued investment in education and new learning spaces for students in our growing communities,” said Board Chair, Fiona Gilbert. “Once built, these additional schools in Airdrie and Chestermere will help relieve space pressures in some of our most overcrowded schools. Every step toward opening a new school in RVS is cause for celebration.”

These two new projects, as well as previously announced schools in Airdrie, Cochrane and Chestermere, will not only bolster RVS’ infrastructure by addressing the need for new student spaces, but they will also improve learning and working environments for students and staff in these communities.

RVS welcomes 500 – 1000 new students each year and these two new schools are crucial for RVS’ continued support of quality learning experiences. This announcement brings RVS to a total of seven new school approvals in just over a year that will help address the backlog of school capital project approvals in RVS. Previously announced projects include:

  • An Airdrie Kindergarten – Grade 9 school (Bayview)
  • An Airdrie Kindergarten – Grade 9 school (South Windsong)
  • An Airdrie high school (Southwinds)
  • A Chestermere Kindergarten – Grade 9 (Dawson’s Landing)
  • A Cochrane Kindergarten – Grade 8 (Rivercrest)

“We look forward to working with the government to get these schools designed, built and open for learning as quickly as possible and will continue to advocate to government to ensure a steady stream of approvals as enrolment growth continues,” said Gilbert.

More information about new schools, modernization and expansion projects underway is available on the RVS website.
