RVS Welcomes Construction Funding for Two New Schools

Posted on

Every step towards opening a new school in Rocky View Schools (RVS) is a cause for celebration. On Feb. 15, RVS welcomed the provincial government’s commitment to advancing full construction funding for two highly anticipated and much-needed schools in our growing communities.

RVS can only change attendance boundaries, reconfigure grade levels, repurpose specialty learning spaces and add or move modular classrooms so many times until the only solution left is the construction of more schools. We are deeply thankful to Minister of Education, Demetrios Nicolaides and the Government of Alberta for recognizing this reality for RVS and investing in this public education infrastructure that our students and communities so desperately need.

The future opening of a new high school in the Southwinds community of Airdrie and a new Kindergarten-Grade 9 school in the community of Dawson’s Landing in Chestermere will help relieve space pressures in some of our most overcrowded schools. These projects are critical for two of our fastest-growing communities; we are very grateful for the government’s support in moving them forward from the design phase to full construction funding.

These new schools will not only bolster our infrastructure by addressing the growing need for student spaces; they will also improve both the learning and working environments for students and staff in these communities. We look forward to collaborating with our government partners to accelerate not only the funding but the construction as well so that we can welcome students, staff and the community into their new schools just as quickly as we possibly can.

Thank you again to Alberta Education for this support.
