RVS Focuses on Positive Bus Behaviours This Fall
Posted onThis fall, Rocky View Schools (RVS) is reminding all students that respectful, safe and responsible behaviours on the school bus create a positive experience for everyone.
“School buses are an extension of the school and the classroom,” said Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach. “Every day, RVS transports more than 13,000 students to and from school, and many additional students will use the bus during the school year to travel on field trips. Establishing clear expectations and providing positive reinforcement ensures our students get where they are going safely.”
This school year, RVS’ bus expectations have been aligned with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), which are used in RVS schools and will be familiar to students. PBIS is a proactive, evidence-based approach that creates positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where all students thrive.
To ensure all students share an understanding of what positive behaviours are expected on the bus, new graphics of expected behaviours and volume levels are being displayed clearly on all RVS buses. Teaching resources have been shared with schools and will be taught throughout the school year.
“These resources will support our educators and our contracted bus drivers as they communicate expected behaviours on the bus,” said Luterbach. “By establishing a shared understanding of how to ride the bus respectfully, safely and responsibly, we can make riding the bus a positive experience for everyone.”
