Resolved: Phone and Internet Outage at RVS Schools

Oct. 4 update:

Resolved

The telecommunications vendor has repaired the cut fibre and service has been fully restored; schools now have Internet and phone service again.

Oct. 2:

RVS schools continue to experience technical issues impacting phones and the Internet due to a fibre optic cable being cut near Calgary. The telecommunications vendor does not have a firm timeframe for when it will be resolved. Schools remain open and classes will continue without Internet access. For urgent messages, parents/guardians can contact the school principal and/or assistant principal through email which will be received on their phones. Please use this only for urgent matters. If you do not have your principal’s email address, please go to your school’s website and select “Contact Us” on the top right-hand corner of the main page, then select “Staff Directory” on the lower left of the page.

Attendance will be recorded on paper and entered into PowerSchool when it can be accessed again. Please note families will not be notified of late arrivals or absences until this outage is repaired.

Teachers and other staff in the building do not have access to email from their school devices so they cannot email you until this issue is resolved. For non-urgent messages we ask you to hold those emails until the system is restored. Updates will be provided on the pop-up alert window of school and division websites as well as through RVS social media. As this issue is beyond our control we thank you for your understanding as our telecommunication provider works to restore the service.
